description
Provides a geospatially modeled estimate of annual carbon emissions or removals from land and vegetation. It applies IPCC Tier 1 default emission factors to global land-cover change data, offering a consistent, spatially explicit view of carbon fluxes across regions. This Tier 1 layer is designed for screening, benchmarking, and early-stage project assessment, where detailed local data are not yet available.
methodology
Carbon flux values are derived by combining observed or modeled land-cover transitions with IPCC Tier 1 default carbon-stock and emission factors for biomass, dead organic matter, and soil pools. For each pixel or polygon, changes in carbon stock are converted to CO₂-equivalent fluxes (tCO₂e ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹) using standard IPCC formulas, producing a globally consistent but coarse-resolution estimate of emissions or sequestration.
