Ecosystem classification frameworks provide standardized methods for identifying and reporting on natural assets, but each serves different corporate reporting needs. IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology (GET) focuses on ecosystem processes and functions, making it the standard for UN SEEA Ecosystem Accounting and the TNFD-recommended framework for ecosystem identification in nature-related financial disclosures. IUCN Habitats Classification centers on species habitat requirements, supporting biodiversity impact assessments, restoration, and dependencies reporting under frameworks like SBTN. RESOLVE Biomes & Ecoregions provides biogeographic context based on regional patterns, useful for location screening and assessing operations across different ecological zones. Our platform uses automated decision trees and spatial analysis to assign these classifications consistently across portfolios and supply chains.
methodology
We assign ecosystem classifications through automated, rule-based decision trees that combine high‑resolution land cover, climate, and biophysical data with established global/regional reference datasets to produce consistent and auditable outputs across portfolios. For RESOLVE, we specifically calculate coverage by spatially intersecting site/plot locations with the official biome/ecoregion boundary dataset to determine the applicable region.
