description
Life expectancy reflects the overall health and wellbeing of communities within a landscape. It represents the average number of years a newborn is expected to live if current age-specific mortality rates remain constant. This indicator provides a broad measure of social stability, access to healthcare, living conditions, and vulnerability levels. In the context of natural capital and landscape management, life expectancy can help signal the degree to which the surrounding social systems are resilient, supported, and benefiting from ecological resources.
methodology
Data is extracted from the World Population Prospects reporting by the United Nations Dept. of Development of Economic and Social Affairs. The database was generated based on a combination of authoritative government statistics and population modelling. The dataset includes both historic assessments and future projections.
validation
Data has been validated by the modelling agency (UN, Dept. Econ. Social Affairs) against reported reference data using standard statistical model fit assessments.
