Protected Areas in Vicinity

Identifies the location and proximity of officially recognized protected areas, such as national parks and nature reserves, as defined by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This information is crucial for understanding the location sensitivity of a landscape and for managing risks associated with operating near ecologically sensitive areas. It is an essential component of environmental due diligence and for developing strategies, e.g. TNFD, that contribute to regional conservation goals.

We use a global dataset of protected areas extracted from OpenStreetMap and calculate the proximity of each site to the nearest protected area within a landscape radius of 30 km.
